New life

I stayed home today instead of going to work because I’m feeling ill, but it hasn’t been such a bad day after all because I found something really nice when I woke up this morning: one of our cats gave birth to a lovely kitten!

Actually, we didn’t know that our cat was pregnant because she’s an outdoor cat, and we never really noticed any change in her body during the past few months. But we were surprised when we saw her feeding a tiny kitten outside our house. It turns out that she gave birth to her kitten right in front of our doorstep. It was such an adorable sight and I just love looking at the mother cat cuddling and grooming her baby!

I could watch these two the whole day, but I think the new mom and her baby need some peace and quiet after such a tiring day. For now, I need to take my antibiotics and get some rest!

  1. I certainly hope I can finish blogging about my Taiwan trip before your trip so that you can get some tips. Which part of Taiwan are you planning to visit?

  2. Aww, what a tiny and cute kitten! That must have been such a surprise to see that it gave birth when you didn’t know it was pregnant. The two look so adorable together in the last photo. I’m glad they’re both well and healthy!

    1. It really was surprising, since she didn’t even look pregnant. No changes in her weight too. But looking back, I realized that the mother kitty was really sensitive when she was being held. Maybe that’s because she was uncomfortable being handled while pregnant.

  3. Please update my link 😀

    Got myself a new domain!

Anyhow, I didn’t know that cats can also give birth to one kitten. I thought they always gave birth to more, still so cute, though =)

    1. I thought so too, but now I think it depends on the cat. She already gave birth before and only one kitten came out as well. Our other female cat, on the other hand, ALWAYS gives birth to three kittens!

    1. I think that as long as she is indoors or is spayed, she should be fine 🙂 Caring for kittens really requires a lot of effort (litter-training our first batch of kitties comes to mind), so I really get what you mean. Lol! 🙂

  4. Congratulations to your mommy cat! I’m surprised only one baby kitten came out. Usually there would be several baby kittens but it kind of worked out for you since this was unexpected. Also since your cat didn’t look any different, it kind of made sense. The kitten looks so adorable!!!!! I’m happy for your cat and her baby :3.

    Hope you feel better soon!

    1. Thank you Nancy! 🙂

I thought cats always gave birth to multiple babies as well, but now I think that it depends on the cat since she’s been consistent on just producing one kitten every time she gives birth. 🙂

  5. Oh my goodness, what a nice surprise and how cute! I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen pictures of such a newborn kitten so small! It’s making my heart melt, haha. I know this post was quite a bit ago, but I do hope you are feeling better! 🙂

  6. Oh my goodness, how sweet and adorable those two are! Like Becca, I don’t think I have seen pictures of a newborn kitten that close. I would totally be playing with the kitten and pretty much guarding that kitten all day long! I am an animal lover. Have you found a name for the kitten? What’s the mama’s name? I hope you have gotten better since you’ve posted this.
